Daguerreotype
Louis Daguerre publicly introduces his daguerreotype process, which produce highly detailed permanent photographs on silver-plated sheets of copper.

1861

First Color Photo
Scottish physicist James Clark Maxwell leaves behind black and white photography with the first color photograph.

1900

Brownie
Kodak introduces their first Brownie, a very inexpensive user-reloadable point-and-shoot box camera.

1925

First 35mm Camera
Leica introduces the 35 mm format to still photography.

1948

Stu Appelbaum is Born
Stu Appelbaum (founder of Midwest Photo) is born in Cleveland, Ohio. He is the first son of Rita and Ralph.

1949

Contax S
The Contax S Camera is introduced, the first 35 mm SLR camera with a pentaprism eye-level viewfinder.

1975

First Digital Camera
Invention of a camera that would capture images using a CCD imager and digitize the captured scene and store the digital info on a standard cassette.

1986

Megapixel Sensor
Kodak scientists invent the world's first megapixel sensor. This will pave the way for digital cameras of the future.

1989

Founding of Midwest Photo
Stu establishes Bill and Mikes Photo, (named after his 2 grandfathers) better known as Midwest Photo with a strong emphasis on used cameras.

2008

Canon EOS 5D Mark II
The EOS 5D Mark II is notable for being the first EOS DSLR that had video recording capabilities.

2014

Moishe Appelbaum Buys Midwest Photo
Stu's eldest son Moishe buys Midwest Photo, upholding the traditions of great service and the values of a family operated business while growing towards the future.

2016

Midwest Photo Moves
After 25 years, Midwest Photo moves location to a building that is approximately 3 times the size of the original store.
